In Lucerne RomanThree-flame satyr is a reproduction in terracotta of the ancient Roman lamps of 1st - 2nd century AD 

This object represents one of the most typical and artistic forms of Roman daily life. The oil lamps were both functional and symbolic: they were used in Roman homes to shed light during the night and were decorated with mythological motifs such as the Satyr, a figure linked to the cult of Dionysus. Furthermore, this type of lamp was also used during religious celebrations and rituals.

Historical Curiosities 

In religion Roman, the Satyr he is also known as Faun. Often imagined as being bearded, sometimes with horse hooves, addicted to wine and a great flute player.

His depictions can be found in Hellenistic-Roman painting. We remember, for example, the Satyr of the so-called Villa of Cicero in the National Museum of Naples and that of the frieze of the Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii.
